Program in the Woods

Amidst the increasing numbers of Design and Make courses, Wood Program stands out as the elder of the tribe, having begun at the old Helsinki University of Technology in 1991.  During those years, including a gradual change-over of name from Wood Studio to todays course title, the program has gained an International reputation. Current & Recent Wood Studio Project

2012 was a special year for the Wood Program. Director Pekka Heikkinen took up the baton of overseeing the Aalto Foundation’s tri-annual architecture conference, curating Crafted, with theProgram highlighted as part of the conference events, creating the Koe Smoke Sauna next to Alvar Aalto famous experimental house on Muuratsalo Island. A second Wood Program project, the Pavilion, a temporary structure constructed in front of Helsinki’s Design Museum for the summer duration of the city’s Design Capital Festival.
